Purpose

An Infection control statement will be generated each year in April

 

Any infection transmission incidents and any action taken (these will have been reported in accordance with our Significant Event procedure)

Details of any infection control audits undertaken and actions undertaken

Details of any control risk assessments undertaken

Details of staff training

Any review and update of policies, procedures and guidelines

Background

 

Park Medical Centre leads for Infection, Prevention and Control, are the Sr Angela Boucher supported by Debbie Beels

 

Significant Events

In the past year (1.4.18 – 31.3.19) there have been no significant events raised that related to infection control.

There was one incident of incorrect use of sharps bins by a locum. The correct usage information is now in the locum pack.

 

Audits

 

An Infection control audit was carried out by Irma Klein

Some out of date items were removed and replaced, All clinical reminded of their responsibility to ensure rooms are kept clean and tidy.

Some handwashing posters were replaced.

 

 

Risk Assessments

 

 

Risk assessments are carried out so best practice can be established and then followed.

 

Cleaning specifications, frequencies and cleanliness of equipment  

 

 

Toys, books and magazines

 

We provide no toys in the waiting room and wooden toys during consultations. To manage risk it was decided to remove toys from the waiting room/. Educational material are still available.

We now have a book swap table in the foyer which seems to be well used.

 

 

Curtains /blinds

These have been replaced and are cleaned by the company on a 6month basis

 

Staff training

 

Our aim is to conduct hand hygiene training to members of our practice team at bi-annual training events.

We are now using Bluestream training to ensure staff are up to dare

 

 

Relevant members of the clinical team attend/will attend update training for Infection Prevention and Control for General Practice.

 

Policies, Procedures and Guidelines

 

 

Policies relating to Infection Prevention and Control are reviewed and updated annually if appropriate. However, all are amended on an on-going basis as current advice changes.
